Natural Soap

Natural soaps, without weird chemicals such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, are normally okay for your feline friends. But there have also been studies saying that any soap with essential oils could be potentially harmful to cats and kittens. So depending on the ingredients of your soap you could be able to use this on your cat. Natural soap made on oils, fats, and butter. The coloring of natural soap is also done naturally. So, it’s completely safe for your cats and kittens. Though this is an expensive option and you may use it as a temporary solution.

Hand Washing soap

All the well-known brand handwashing soap does not have a toxin in it. Those are perfect for the pet bath. To use them add some glycerin to make the soap softer and cat-friendly. But if the handwashing soap has an excessive level of alkali then we suggest not using it on your cats.

You should never use human shampoo on your cat. Even if you’re feeling lazy, don’t ever use human shampoo to wash your cat’s coat. Although people shampoo is not always toxic, it is formulated specifically for humans. Absolutely not cats. Cat skin doesn’t have the same pH balance, and as a result, human shampoo can be very aggressive and drying on them. This could lead to flakiness and painful irritation for your precious pet.

Baby Shampoo

Baby shampoo is one of the better alternatives to the cat’s shampoo. Because the sensitivity level of both the cat and baby skins are pretty similar. So it should use the level the same alkali on both of things. For the sudden present, you can use baby shampoo as the cat shampoo alternative.

Dish Soap


Dish soap is a detergent with a pleasant aroma. As most dishwasher detergent can cut greases from dishes, so, it is useful to clear extra oil from a pet’s fur/coat, it can also destroy flea exoskeletons from the cat’s body. But, this can wipe out natural useful oils from cat fur, that’s why regular use is not recommended. However, you can use it to kill adult fleas as a primary flea treatment.

If you have nothing else and you would prefer to not risk the suitable options you can also make your own cat shampoo! It is the safest alternative if you don’t have cat shampoo. An easy recipe for a basic cat shampoo is:

  • Dish soap (1 Cup)
  • 1 cup of White/apple cider vinegar
  • 4 cups of Water
  • Geranium Oil or Catnip Oil (Optional, but best for controlling fleas) 3-5 Drops
